Neuropsychological Assessment

A neuropsychological assessment is a specialist assessment looking at a persons thinking skills, behavioural skills and emotional functioning. It provides a profile of strengths and weaknesses so that strategies and plans can be made to overcome or compensate for any difficulties supporting the person to engage in a full and satistfying life.

Concussion Services

A concussion is a form of mild traumatic brain injury. It can happen many ways including during sport, car accidents or falls. Headache, mood changes and sleep disturbance are common. If you are continuing to experience symptoms 2 weeks after your accident you may benefit from assessment and/or support.

Counselling Support and General psychology

Mood and emotional changes are common after an injury or large unexpected event (such as an accident). They can affect both the person who has experienced direct change and their significant others. Support is available to stabilize mood, manage anxiety and/or work through grief/adjustment. People without head injuries can also be seen for support around health changes, stress, mood and anxiety.

Behavioural Support

Behavioural changes are common after an injury or change to the brain. They may include being more impulsive, socially inappropriate, aggressive or irritable or even being overly familiar with people. We can help by exploring triggers for these behaviours and working with the person and their significant others in managing these changes. Please note, this service does not provide behaviour support for NDIS participants

Cognitive Rehabilitation

Changes to cognition or thinking skills are common after an injury or insult to the brain. These may include changes to concentration, language or perceptual skills, memory or problem solving skills. Rehabilitation of these changes involves examining what has changed and applying strategies and new learnt skills to manage them better.

Medicolegal Assessment

A medicolegal assessment is a specialised neuropsychological assessment designed to answer questions posed by a court or legal body. For example, there may be questions about a person's ability to make their own will or their own decisions about personal legal matters (e.g. appointing power of attorney, deciding where they are going to live, agreeing to medical treatment, becoming a guardian for someone).

Secondary Consultation

This may be requested by public or private services who are trying to set up processes around supporting people with brain injury or other cognitive/behavioural needs. The consultation depends on the questions being asked and could include site visits, staff inservices or written reports/manuals.
